Most drivers never meet the technician who works on their vehicle. They hand over the keys, explain what the vehicle is doing and trust that the person in the service bay knows how to find the problem.
At Curry Auto Center, that trust is backed by a measurable investment in technician education.
As of 2026, the technicians in our Bloomington service department hold 86 combined professional credentials: 43 certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence and 43 factory certifications from General Motors. Those credentials cover 19 different areas of automotive service.
We are proud of that number. More importantly, we are proud of the people behind it.
What 86 certifications represent
A certification is not simply an award handed out for time on the job. Technicians earn credentials by completing training, satisfying experience requirements and demonstrating their knowledge in defined areas of vehicle diagnosis and repair.
Our team’s 43 ASE certifications cover nine major categories:
- Engine repair
- Engine performance
- Light-vehicle diesel engine performance
- Automatic transmissions
- Manual drivetrains and axles
- Suspension and steering
- Brakes
- Electrical and electronic systems
- Heating and air conditioning
The Curry team also holds 43 GM factory certifications: 33 Gold and 10 Silver. These credentials cover gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, steering and suspension, climate-control systems, and electric and hybrid vehicles.
Taken together, these certifications demonstrate something that can be difficult to communicate in an advertisement: our technicians have done the work required to understand the systems they repair.
General automotive knowledge and GM-specific training
ASE and GM credentials serve different, complementary purposes.
ASE certification is a nationally recognized measure of automotive knowledge. It tests a technician’s understanding of the principles, diagnostic methods and repair practices used across the automotive industry. ASE credentials must also be renewed on a five-year cycle, helping technicians keep their knowledge current.
GM factory training is specific to Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles. It addresses the engineering, diagnostic procedures, software, service information and repair methods used by General Motors.
Silver certification means a technician has completed GM’s required training and is qualified in that particular service area. Gold certification is the next level. Before earning Gold status, a technician must achieve Silver certification and then complete additional requirements, including related ASE testing, advanced GM instruction and hands-on technical training.
That combination matters. Our technicians understand the broader principles of automotive repair while also receiving detailed instruction on the vehicles they work on every day.
Cars have changed, and technician training has changed with them
A modern vehicle is mechanical, electrical and digital at the same time.
An apparent battery problem might involve a charging system, a control module or communication between several components. A warning light might require software analysis before any physical repair begins. Even systems that drivers have known for decades—engines, brakes, transmissions and air conditioning—are now monitored and controlled by increasingly sophisticated electronics.
Electric and hybrid vehicles add high-voltage systems, new safety procedures and entirely different methods of diagnosis. Advanced driver-assistance features create another layer of technology that technicians must understand.
Experience remains essential, but experience alone is no longer enough. Today’s technicians must continue learning throughout their careers. New vehicle platforms, updated powertrains, software revisions and revised repair procedures make ongoing education part of the job.
Our certification totals reflect that continuing commitment.
Training is supported by the right resources
A qualified technician also needs access to accurate information and appropriate equipment.
As a GM dealership service department, Curry Auto Center technicians can use GM diagnostic software, manufacturer service information, current repair procedures, technical publications and special service tools developed for GM vehicles. Genuine GM Parts support is also available when a repair calls for manufacturer components.
Our Bloomington facility is equipped with 22 vehicle lifts:
- Fifteen 10,000-pound lifts
- Six 12,000-pound lifts
- One 20,000-pound lift
That range allows our team to accommodate passenger cars, crossovers, SUVs, pickup trucks, full-size vans and certain commercial or medium-duty vehicles. The facility supports everything from routine maintenance to substantial mechanical repairs.
Certifications matter on older vehicles, too
Factory training is not reserved for brand-new vehicles or warranty repairs.
Many of the principles, service procedures and diagnostic skills covered through professional training are equally important when a vehicle has been on the road for ten, fifteen or twenty years. Older vehicles can present their own challenges, particularly when a technician must distinguish between normal wear, an isolated component failure and a problem involving several related systems.
Whether we are servicing a newer Chevrolet Silverado, diagnosing an electrical concern in a Buick Enclave or repairing the air conditioning in an older GMC, the same disciplined approach applies: understand the system, diagnose the cause and follow the appropriate repair procedure.
Although our factory training focuses on Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles, Curry Auto Center also services many non-GM makes and models. Our technicians bring the same ASE-certified knowledge and professional diagnostic process to those vehicles.
Proud of the technicians behind the numbers
It is easy to advertise “expert service.” It takes considerably more effort to document what that expertise means.
At Curry Auto Center, it means 43 ASE certifications. It means 33 GM Gold certifications and 10 GM Silver certifications. It means professional training across 19 areas of automotive service. It also means technicians who continue studying as the vehicles in our service lanes continue changing.
Curry Auto Center has served Bloomington for more than 110 years. The vehicles are far more advanced than they were when our business began, but the basic responsibility has not changed: take good care of the customer and do the work correctly.
We are proud of the technicians who carry that responsibility into our service department every day.
