When you purchase a vehicle in Indiana, you are legally entitled to receive your title in a timely manner. Under Indiana law, dealerships must deliver the vehicle title within 31 days of the purchase date.
This timeline is critical - receiving your title promptly ensures you can complete registration and obtain your license plate within the timeframe required by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
How Title Delivery Works at Curry Auto Center
We handle the title process for you to simplify your experience and eliminate unnecessary trips.
What We Do
- Process all title paperwork on your behalf
- Submit required title and lien documentation to the state
- Ensure compliance with Indiana's 31-day legal requirement
Title Fee
- Indiana title fee: $15
- This is the same fee you would pay directly at the BMV - we collect that fee on behalf of the BMV
Where Your Title Goes
Delivery depends on whether there is a lien on the vehicle:
-
No Lien (cash purchase):
Title is mailed directly to you -
With Lien (financed purchase):
Title is mailed to your lender (bank or finance company)
In both cases, you will receive a confirmation notice from us via mail once the title has been processed.
What Happens Next
After receiving your confirmation:
You must go to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to complete registration.
Important Distinction:
- Title = handled by dealership
- Registration & Plate = handled by purchaser
These are two separate transactions, and the BMV will not issue plates until the title has been properly processed.
Out-of-State Purchases
If you purchased your vehicle outside of Indiana or are registering it in another state:
- Title procedures will vary based on state requirements
- Additional documentation or steps may be required
